Choice of disc

There are 4 different types of discs – distance driver, fairway driver, midrange and putter.
Choosing the right disc in the right situation can make a big difference to your game.

Below we go through the different varieties available and in which situation they are best suited.

Putter

Putters are the deepest and slowest disc golf discs and have a narrow rim. Putters are designed to fly short distances in a straight line. The rotation of a putter is also the slowest of the 4 different discs, so it has less potential to deviate from the line. While the putter is designed to catch the chains in the basket, it is also less likely to fly too far past the basket. Along with developing a good card game, the player’s use of the putter is very important in lowering the number of throws on the course.

Midrange

Midranges is a good disc to choose as your first disc.
They often offer a straighter flight and do not deviate from the intended line to the same extent as a fairway or distance driver will if thrown incorrectly.
Midranges have less rhyme that feels comfortable for most people and are slightly deeper than drivers.
Midranges are great for navigating narrow fairways and landing areas near the basket.

Fairway Driver

Fairway drivers have slightly less rim than distance drivers and are easier to control because they have less speed potential.
Although smaller fairway drivers do not have the same potential maximum length, they are an excellent choice for tighter lines, shorter shots, straighter shots and shorter drives.
Fairway drivers are generally a good choice for both experienced and inexperienced players.

Distance Driver

Distance driver, as the name suggests has the highest potential to fly the farthest. But they also require the highest speed to fly according to their intended flight characteristics.
Distance drivers have a wider rim and a sharper edge, so may not always be the best choice for younger players, newer players or players with lower arm speed.
